Return to Play Guidelines

August 2020

West Haven Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading will begin the 2020 season on Monday August 3, 2020. As we begin our season during the COVID-19 pandemic we will be implementing recommended policies from the State of Connecticut, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Pop Warner Little Scholars and in consultation with our local West Haven Health Department. The following policy and guidance are to ensure the safest sports environment for our players, cheerleaders, coaches, staff, and families of our athletes. The health and safety of our program and our Seahawk family of our top priority.

Return to Play Guidelines:

  • Sick participants (players/cheerleaders) and coaches or those exposed to someone with systems or COVID-19 should not attend any practices or league events until released by a medical professional. Any participant or coach with COVID-19 symptoms or that has tested positive for COVID-19 or has been exposed with an individual with symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19 must report it to our league COVID-19 point of contact, Cebi Waterfield, RN. A 14-day quarantine may be required for players and coaches with symptoms pending testing as required by state, CDC or Pop Warner guidelines.

  • Parents/Guardians need to take participants temperature before leaving for practices/games.

  • Players and cheerleaders should arrive at field parking lot and report directly to their team practice area. When practice is complete all participants and coaches should leave the field- no congregating. Teams will be dismissed one at a time to limit participants at the exit gates.

  • Parents are discouraged from attending practices and asked to stay in the parking area if they wish to watch. Absolutely no parents will be permitted on the football field or within the practice areas.

  • All coaches, staff, team moms will wear masks or face covering within Veteran Field or at the practice areas whenever possible and necessary. Parents that enter the facility must wear a face covering or mask.

  • Teams/squads will practice and stay in their assigned practice area.

  • Temperature checks will be required of rostered personnel for admission to games and competitions. This is a Southern Connecticut Pop Warner Conference requirement.

  • The league will sanitize all footballs, blocking bags, cones, cheer mats after each practice.
