Welcome to the 2025 Seahawk Cheer Season! 

 

August Practice Schedule Coming Soon

 


Practice start date will be communicated via your team's Head Coach and will be held at Veteran's Field for all teams.  

Practices for Mitey Mites, Jr Pee Wee, PeeWee and Varsity teams during the month of August run Monday through Thursday from 5:45pm to 8:00pm. Friday nights WILL BE used for any mandatory makeup practices due to inclement weather.

 

Tiny Mites will practice 3 nights per week during the month of August on Mon, Wed, and Thurs from 5:45pm to 7:45pm.  Tuesday nights WILL BE used for mandatory makeup practices due to inclement weather. 

 

Cheerleaders must be at practice at the scheduled start time.  Cheer is a team sport and requires all team members to be in attendance.  We have a strict attendance policy, excused absences are for illness or graded school events only.  3 unexcused absences will prompt removal from team without refund.  Refunds will ONLY be granted for withdrawls before Aug 9th. Withdrawls after this date will not be refunded.

Until practice wear is passed out, cheerleaders are required to come to practice in t-shirts, shorts (NOT DENIM), socks and sneakers.  Once we hand out practice wear, your coach will advise you on what days it must be worn.  Please be sure your cheerleader brings a large bottle of water to keep hydrated.  Girls should drink plenty of water during the day to hydrate in advance!  For safety reasons all cheerleaders are to come to practice with hair up and no jewelry may be worn, including earrings.
 

Once school begins, practice time is reduced to 3 nights per week, depending upon school gym availability. That schedule will be posted as soon as available.

Most home games are played on Saturdays at Veteran's field.  Away games are dependent on the field availability of the hosting town. Girls are expected to cheer at ALL games, both home and away.

Cheerleaders are required to purchase a bodyliner, skivvies, socks, and new competition cheer sneakers, to be worn at games and competitions.  The website information is posted above.  We require new socks and sneakers each year to ensure they are clean for competition.  You may wear last years cheer sneakers to games or purchase a separate pair of ANY all white cheer sneakers for games.

 

The West Haven Seahawks league provides to your cheerleader, the use of a game uniform/competition uniform for the season, a practice uniform consisting of shorts and a t-shirt (which is yours to keep) and a competition bow (which is yours to keep).  Registration costs also covers any bus transportation required to competition and/or playoff games, as well as insurance and field costs, and professionally produced competition music for the teams. 

MANDATORY Competition Dates for local competitions are as follows:

  • State Competition - Saturday Oct 11th site TBA

  • Southern CT Competition - Saturday Oct 25th at West Haven High School

  • New England Regional Competition - Saturday Nov 15th and/or Sunday Nov 16th at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield MA (Each team will compete on just one of those days)

 

All competitive teams (TM, MM, JPW, JV) have the potential (based on Regional competition results)to travel to Pop Warner National Cheer and Dance competition held in Charlotte, NC during the week of Dec 6, 2025 at your own expense.

Cheerleaders will have mandatory practice on the day before their competition day and will be required to arrive the night before practice.  There is a mandatory 3 night stay for all athletes, cheerleaders will be able to return home day after they compete.

 

All coaches and staff of the West Haven Seahawks are volunteers.  These people have agreed to a commitment to coach your children, and deserve and expect a commitment from you and your child to attend all practices, games, and competitions.
